The Monument

.

.
The Monument stands at the junction of Monument Street and Fish Street Hill in the City of London; it was designed by Sir Christopher Wren to celebrate the rebuilding of the City after the Great Fire of 1666 which destroyed most of the old City of London. The Great Fire of London began in a baker's house in Pudding Lane on Sunday 2nd September 1666 and was finally extinguished on Wednesday 5th September. The Monument was built between 1671 and 1677 .
